Great news for Archos fans. The company is further expanding its line of tablet computing solutions. We reviewed the formidable but slightly flawed Archos Gen X10 running Android. The company took all the cool ideas from that device and slapped them in the recently announced Titanium line of impending Archos tablets. But what?s this?yet another new line of tablets!? What so ever could be the difference? Well this new Platinum line will be the first tablets on the Android platform to feature true HD IPS display types that combine with the beefy performance of a Quad-Core CPU.
There are 3-new tablets in the Platinum line. Each features a distinguished aluminum design. At the bottom tier is the Archos 80 Platinum, an 8-inch slab that kicks out a 1024 x 768 resolution across its IPS screen. This device boasts speeds that are twice as fast as the popular Kindle Fire HD 8.9. Further trumping the Kindle, the 80 Platinum has double the RAM and a rear-facing camera, for only a $199 and it?s available later this month.
In the middle lane we have the Archos 97 Platinum HD. For $299 this tablet does an amazing 2048 x 1536 over its 9.7-inch IPS screen. Think iPad Retina display and? you have a good idea of how crisp the resolution should be. However you can forget about the pricing Apple has for that iPad version. The 97 Platinum is also available this month for $299.
Pulling up the rear is the higher-end Archos 116 Platinum. This one uses a wider 11.6-inch ISP screen, capable of 1080p display resolution, making the Archos 116 Platinum a very unique device in the tablet landscape. It will retail for $349 when it launches in April, later this year.
The entire Platinum line will each share the following specifications and features.
- High-Definition IPS display with capacitive multi-touch screen?
- QUAD core CPU at 1.2 GHz with 8-core GPU, with 1080p video decoding
- 2 GB RAM
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean?
- Full access to the 700,000 applications?
- Archos Media Center applications
- Front and Back Cameras
- Mini-HDMI and Micro SD ports
