Situated in Northern California and approximately a half-hour to the northeast of Sacramento, the Placer County Fair & Events Center is in the city of Roseville. In addition to the annual Placer County Fair, attractions at the fairground include auto racing, concerts, beauty pageants and livestock shows. An affordable and convenient way to enjoy all that the fairground has to offer is to stay in its camping area.
RV Park
The Placer County Fair & Events Center has camping sites in an area with trees, grass and picnic tables. Open throughout the year, the RV park has 20 sites that are full hookups and 80 or more sites that are partial hookups, depending on the event going on at the time. Amenities in the camping area include restrooms and showers. Both nightly and weekly camping rates are available. Reservations are not accepted and the sites are handed out on a first-come, first-served basis.
Placer County Fair
The Placer County Fair takes place on the weekend following Father's Day in June and features a variety of events. One is the Classic Car Parade and Show, which features live music, a dance contest and a pie-eating contest. Another is a freestyle motocross event in which motorcycle riders attempt to impress judges with their jumps and stunts. Some other events at the fair include the Placer County Mustache and Beard contest, beauty and talent shows, concerts, livestock auctions, old-time medicine shows, cooking contests, tractor pulls and a movie stunt show. Food and exhibitions booths are located around the grounds during the fair.
Speedway
One of the big attractions at the fairgrounds is its All American Speedway, which opened in 1955 and was paved in 1972. A quarter of a mile long, the track features stock car racing on Saturday nights from April through September. Drivers accumulate championship points racing in the Modified, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and Bombers divisions. Race tickets are available at the the Placer County Fair administration office during weekdays. The track, which draws some of the top drivers in Northern California, has an oval shape and is sanctioned by NASCAR.
Other Events
Although the fair is the main event, plenty of other events take place at the fairgrounds during the year. In May 2011, for instance, the grounds hosted a gun show, a private party and a strawberry festival. In February there was a doll and teddy bear shows as well as a law enforcement show. Additional events include the Roseville Home and Garden Show, the Country Folk Art Show, the Roseville Rock Rollers Gem & Mineral Show, and the Donner Trails AKC Kennel Show. A festival also is held on the Fourth of July weekend.
